Every region has an economic and commercial hub, and in Southern Oregon, Medford is that place. With a population of just over 83,000, Medford serves as the County seat and is the fourth largest metro area in the state. Although it continues to grow in retail, manufacturing, and healthcare, the area is best known for something else.
Most people have heard of Harry and David’s, but not many people know where it got its start. Southern Oregon is known for its pear orchards and vineyards and is home to Harry and David. Once a small local company where kids would sample right out of the bins, Harry and David is now a world-famous fruit and food gift provider.
Additionally, Medford is the gateway to endless outdoor recreational sights that Southern Oregon has to offer. The region is home to the famous Rogue River, Crater Lake National Park, the Oregon Coast, and Mt. Ashland Ski area. The outdoorsy types enjoy hiking, biking, rafting, skiing, fishing, camping, rafting, and more, all just minutes from Medford.
While you are out enjoying nature, make sure you keep an eye out for Bigfoot as he has been known to make an appearance or two in the area. Just don’t go looking for him at Harry and David’s because he prefers quieter locations where he reigns as the hide-and-go-seek champion.
Whether it is shopping, restaurants, or the great outdoors, you will find it all here in Medford.
